This gigantic avian has lived on Sesame Street since the show premiered in 1969. His 8’2″ tall and has entertained millions of young children as well as their parents, with his innocent outlook on the world. He makes friends easily.
Big Bird premiered in the first episode of the show and he can roller skate, dance, sing, ice skate, draw, write poetry, and ride a unicycle. He’s described as a six-year-old, that if he is really six years old, he’s very talented!
He is prone to a lot of misunderstandings such as thinking that the alphabet is one very long word. His home is a large nest behind 1 to 3 Sesame Street and it’s next to Oscar’s trash can. He has a lovely teddy bear named Radar. This is a bit ironic, because on the TV show M. A. S. H., a character called Radar had a teddy bear also. We all love Big Bird because he’s a kind and very active social person. And we have come to think of him as a person.
Big Bird has had quite a movie career. He’s been in the film The Muppet Movie, The Muppets Take Manhattan, and the TV special called A Muppet Family Christmas. He was also a guest on the Muppet show when it taped its 318th episode, plus he’s made a variety of outside TV appearances as well.
